Urban resilience during the global pandemic

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has a far-reaching impact on the global economy, health, and society, leading to a decline of urban vibrancy worldwide. This presentation will delve into the critical concept of urban resilience, focusing on how countries and cities recover from and adapt to the challenges posed by the global pandemic. It will consist of two key parts. The first part focuses on measuring urban resilience based on nighttime light data and identifying the resilience patterns at the global level. The second part of the presentation will zoom in on Singapore as a case study, where the role of urban planning/design on enhancing urban resilience will be discussed.
