Summary
Energy demands in global cities have grown drastically. This growth is strongly related to changing lifestyles where mobility, comfort, and the use of space have all increased. Spacergy is a project which seeks to meet these demands. The project aims to optimise the spatial form and infrastructure properties of cities so that we can have smart integrated production, storage, and exchange of renewable energy. The project also aims to utilize new forms of governance to create agreement in communities about an efficient use and exchange of energy. Furthermore, the project will create an organization model for ‘Energy Sensitive Cities’ through comparative research into different case studies. Ultimately, spacergy will help planners and decision makers facilitate the transition of their communities to a more efficient, liveable and prosperous urban environment. The project will be conducted in the cities of Zurich, Almere, Bergen, and Brescia.
